Tyne and Tees vs German Pioneers in Free for All (round 1)

German air power flexes it's muscle!

The tournament organizer (Bob M) was really on the ball.  He has sent out an very detailed and easy to understand marking guide along with how the missions were going to be decided.  Basically there were 6 different ones thrown into a hat and 3 were chosen.  We ended up pulling Free for All, Encounter and Breakthrough.  My first game was against Ca$h from The Table Top Tacticians.  He was running German Pioneers and his list looked something like this:

HQ
2 x Full Pioneers
3 x Nebs with PaK 40
4 x Brumbars
2 x Tiger Ies
Limited Stukas with bombs

I was playing with
HQ
1 Full Infantry Platoon
1 Under strength Infantry Platoon
UCs with Piat
2 x 6 Pdrs with UCs
4 x Achilles
3 x Crocs
4 x Priests with AOP

GROUND ORIENTATION
Objectives are just off camera to the top on both side, behind the wheat fields on the far left and right

Brumbars deploy in the centre of the German line ready to engage the TTs

Pioneers around one objective

Tigers, Pioneers and Nebs secure the other objective

Achilles and Infantry across from the Tigers

Priest on the Far edge of the battlefield ready to provide fire support

Infantry around the other objective ready to advance

Crocs, 6 pdrs and UCs ready to advance on my right flank

TURN 1
Priests smoke one Tiger

Infantry dig in as they watch the Achilles roll forward to engage a Tiger

They manage to knock him out!

Pioneers advance into the fields supported by the slow moving Brumbars

Crocs rumble forward, Brumbars can't hurt their front armour and the Crocs can't hurt the Brumbars until they get close

Casualties
German
Tiger

TT
nil

TURN 2
Nebs range in and knock out a gun and transport

Stukas swoop in knocking out 2 Achilles despite the AA firing hitting the planes

Tiger and Pioneers advance

The Priest smoke the Brumbars to stop them from hammering the Achilles

Crocs burst out from the woods and fields but they are still to far way for their flame throwers

Infantry continue to advance with the Crocs

The Achilles duel with the Tiger doing nothing

Casualties
German
Tiger

TT
2 x Achilles
6 pdr and transport

TURN 3
Stukas again swoop in knocking out a third Achilles and the last one breaks leaving the field

Pioneers move from their cover assaulting and destroying one Croc before pulling back

MG fire pins the Pioneers setting up a TT Infantry assault.  However that assault is pinned by the Brumbars defensive fire

The Tiger supported by the Pioneers advance in the wheat field

Casualties
German
Tiger
4 x Pioneers stands

TT
Achilles Platoon
6 pdr and transport
1 x Infantry stand

TURN 4
The Crocs catch the retreating Pioneers and finish them off only to then have the Nebs fire a devastating bombardment knocking out a Croc and the remainder of the 6 Pdr platoon, the lone Croc leaves the field!
Casualties
German
Tiger
Pioneer Platoon

TT
Achilles platoon
6 pdr platoon
1 x Infantry stand
Croc platoon

TURN 5
The Brit Infantry push back the advancing Pioneers losing one of their own to three German stands

The UCs hide in the woods unable to do anything to the Brumbars.

The game ended in a tie with Ca$h killing 3 of my platoons to my one kill so it was a 3-2 score.  A great game that looked like I might pull off the win until that devastating Neb shot.  I should have the second AAR done over the next couple of days.

  1. You should check out the software I wrote- Batrepper. It handles any formatting and cuts battle report generating time in half- plus it has all the stuff you and I track like combat casualties.

Anyhow- awesome report! Great models and terrain!

  2. @indierockclimber. Thanks for pointing me to this, I tried Batrepper out for the next AAR, works really well. I have a couple ideas which I'll post on the forum.

    @ The Kiwi thanks!
